I recently went and saw The American with Hank and Thach. I must say it was quite different than I was expecting. Slow, beautifully shot and with little dialogue, the film was moving and contained an ending that I was not expecting. If you want to see some wonderful cinematography and George Clooney not being a part of an Oceans movie, check this one out.

Just a quicky update, a few things of late. Currently I’m in Utah with Grete gettin’ some work done, so look for that in the future. Life is good, moving casually.

Shot some stuff today for a Gear Up! with Steve’s help. Needed some web content, so we shot some, sorta interesting photos… could have been better, could have been worse.

To commemorate the new blog theme [which is still very much a work in progress] and the fact that there are no good movies out in theaters right now {well, maybe 1 or 2], here are five movies I’ve seen lately that you should check out.

Micmacs:

RT Consensus: It might be a little too whimsical for its own good, but Micmacs delivers more of the inventive silliness that director Jean-Pierre Jeunet is known for. 73%. I say: A quirky and charming little french film. Full of heart [but not a lot of drama], Micmacs harkens me back to an older era of films. Recommended By TheCool, it was worth the two hours. For more info, click here.

The Damned United:

RT Consensus: Better than your average football pic, Damned United is carried by another star turn from Michael Sheen as Brian Clough. 94%. I Say: Michael Sheen turns in another grand performance [like in The Queen and Frost/Nixon]. well worth it, especially if you’re a football fan. King of Kong, Fistful of Quarters:

RT Consensus: The King of Kong is funny and compelling with more than a few poignant insights into human behavior. Director Seth Gordon presents the dueling King Kong players in all their obsessive complexity and with perfectly al dente observations. 97%. I Say: Recommended by Thomas, Snowboard’s Art Director, I was intrigued and drawn into a David vs. Goliath struggle. A retro, modern-day battle of good vs. evil. A great documentary. For more info, click here.

Kick Ass:

RT Consensus: Not for the faint of heart, Kick-Ass takes the comic adaptation genre to new levels of visual style, bloody violence, and gleeful profanity. 76%. I Say: You gotta like a little gore being introduced into an indie/nerd/action flick. Plus, Nic Cage is awesome. For more info, click here.

The Other Guys:

RT Consensus: While not the best collaboration between Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, The Other Guys delivers bursts of comedy during a summer largely devoid of laughs. 76%. I Say: Rotten Tomatoes got it right. Not a lot of funny movies this summer, but the Other Guys is the exception. Also, shows a breakdown of a Ponzi scheme in the credits. For more info, click here.
